According to a new analysis from Forbes magazine, Cubs fans are the fourth most loyal in baseball, behind the Rangers, Red Sox and Braves. Loyalty here is measured as the relationship between winning percentage and attendance since 1991: "The faster that fans boosted attendance and the more hastily they abandoned poor performance indicated fans who were less loyal." New School, Research Facility Combat Autism

A new school has opened in Chicago’s Medical District. The Easter Seals Therapeutic School and Center for Autism Research, a $32 million project, is specifically designed to meet the special needs of students with autism, emotional behavior disorders and severe learning disabilities.

The school will also double as a research facility; classrooms are equipped with unobtrusive viewing centers, and scientists will be studying the causes of and developing successful intervention techniques for the disorder.

This unique facility will be the only one of its kind to combine on a single campus educational, research, training, early intervention, school-to-work transition and independent living capabilities. Nowhere else in the country will this “continuum” of services for children with autism be so well integrated at a single campus facility.

The Chicago White Sox have pledged their support with a $1,000,000 donation, the largest direct contribution to the project. Ozzie Guillen, who stopped by the school yesterday to help celebrate the unveiling of the school’s new softball field, has pledged to serve as a celebrity spokesperson for the cause for autism.

I messed up my finance final. I felt confident and prepared the day of the final. Life had other plans. If there's one upcoming event we here at Chicagoist unanimously want to nerd-out to, it's Walking With The Dinosaurs: The Live Experience, which opens tonight at the United Center. Based on a BBC Television show, this live 90-minute theatrical show with a $20 million dollar budget features life-sized dinosaurs (the tallest, a Brachiosaurus, being 36 feet tall and 56 feet long) in a simulated natural habitat. Realistic roars of dinosaurs, earthquakes, volcanoes, and comet crashes add to the spectacle, along with both live and recorded video.

You can't actually walk with the dinosaurs; it's more like sit and stare at them. But Carmen Pavlovic, CEO of The Creature Production Company, assures it's still an amazing experience. "This is the closest you'll ever get to experiencing what it was like when they walked and ruled the earth. This is a show that could only fit in arenas - as the creatures are so absolutely immense in size, " says Pavlovic.

The show was conceived in Australia where it was huge success and has been playing to sold-out arenas in North America since the early spring. "Walking With Dinosaurs: The Live Experience" premieres tonight at 7pm and runs through August 17th. Tickets range from $25-$75 dollars and can be purchased through Ticketmaster or United Center Box Office. We're still debating on whether to splurge for the expensive seats or sit way up and save our money for an awesome Dino souvenir. Because can you really attend a spectacle such as this and not walk out holding a T-Rex with colored lights shooting out of its brain?

Woman Charged with Killing Boyfriend Over Beer

A West Side woman has been charged with first-degree murder after she allegedly stabbed her 77-year-old boyfriend because he was drinking her beer. Regina Williams, 55, was, according to police, sitting with her boyfriend, Willie Anderson, in his car. She became mad that Anderson was drinking her beer, pulled out the knife she carries, and began stabbing him.

Anderson yelled for help, but Williams continued to stab him, Assistant State's Atty. Susanne Groebner told Desierto.
Afterward, Williams got out of the car and called down the street to Anderson's nephew, saying, "You better come get your uncle—I just killed him," according to her arrest report.

Groebner said Williams got back in the vehicle and finished drinking her beer.

Williams will be in court again at the end of the month. [Trib]

The Chicago police board released records today that cover officers who've been suspended or fired. In the report:

Officer Barbara Nevers, who allegedly said "I don't pay for coffee, I am an officer, I get coffee for free," at a Starbucks. She's been suspended for three months and ordered to undergo counseling after a series of similar incidents.
Sergeant Nicholas M. Ortega, who was fired after being found guilty of entering a bar in uniform, giving an "unauthorized person" a ride in his squad car, and having sex with a woman "in or near" his office.
Officer Joseph Battaglia , who was suspended after he apparently told a restaurant employee "that he had confiscated 'weed' and asked if they wanted some."

Jacy: All day date: Bike to Green City Market on Saturday morning, make a picnic lunch (including a thermos of strawberry basil vodka lemonade) and enjoy what beautiful remaining moments of the summer we have left by the lake. Then realize we probably shouldn't have drank the entire thermos of vodka since we're on our bikes and walk to AMC to catch the latest Apatow, share a romantic box of Sno Caps, and listen to the audience laugh every time Seth Rogan says, "Dude! That's weird, man. Dude."

Laura: I'd start with dinner at Mixteco and then head to the Humboldt Park Boat House to enjoy the outdoor air and nice weather and to see Ocho Puertas, a Spanish documentary about a music club in Puerto Rico.

Kevin: I'm a big fan of meeting for either coffee or drinks for a first date, so I would meet at Ola's, Whirl Away, or Bernice's. If things went well, we'd either go walk around the neighborhood, or go make out in a park.
